Zoonotic Diseases: It Goes Both Ways, Part 1

Recorded On: 08/21/2018

NOTE: If you are taking zoonosis training to satisfy the insurance requirements of your organization, please contact your organization or maddiesuniversity@maddiesfund.org to be directed to the correct training.

Zoonotic diseases may not impact shelter animals as frequently as other more common diseases such as parvovirus, but when they do the ramifications can be huge. Consider that the recent outbreak of Campylobacter associated with puppies in pet stores could just as easily have happened in a shelter.

This presentation discusses the prevention, recognition and management of a few zoonotic diseases that might walk into the shelter on four paws or two feet, including Rabies and Salmonella spp.

The presentation was recorded at the 2018 ASPCA-Maddie's® Cornell Shelter Medicine Conference.
